Construction Set for 2026 on Petrie’s $60 Million TAFE Centre of Excellence

Petrie is set to cement its place as one of Moreton Bay’s major education and jobs precincts, with a $60 million TAFE Centre of Excellence confirmed for the Moreton Bay Central site.

The project follows the transfer of council-owned land to the Queensland Government, securing a site next to UniSC’s Moreton Bay campus and close to the future Moreton Bay Indoor Sports Centre, which is planned to play a role in the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Construction is expected to start in 2026, with delivery targeted for 2028.

Why Petrie?

The location is no accident. The former paper mill lands at The Mill / Moreton Bay Central have been transforming into a mixed-use hub built around education, innovation and future jobs — and the TAFE facility will sit right in the middle of it.

Local Resources

Key advantages include:

  • Walking distance to UniSC Moreton Bay, opening the door for stronger pathways between university and vocational training
  • Close to Petrie rail station, making it accessible for students travelling from across the region
  • Positioned near major industrial and employment areas, aligning training with real workforce demand

Mayor Peter Flannery has previously highlighted the benefit of giving locals the chance to “study and work closer to home,” while building stronger education partnerships in the precinct.

What the Centre Will Deliver

The Moreton Bay TAFE Centre of Excellence is planned to support priority industries for the region, including:

  • Construction
  • Engineering
  • Electrotechnology
  • Advanced manufacturing

At its core will be an Advanced Manufacturing Hub, with project material outlining facilities such as robotics training areas, “smart factory” environments, maker spaces (including 3D printing), welding simulators, engineering and fabrication workshops, and advanced trade training labs.

The centre forms part of a wider Queensland rollout of skills infrastructure, with other Centres of Excellence planned in locations including Caloundra, Rockhampton and the Southern Moreton Bay Islands.

Local Impact: A Growing Education and Jobs Precinct

With UniSC already operating nearby — and Olympic-linked infrastructure progressing at The Mill — the new TAFE campus adds another layer to Petrie’s shift into an education-led growth area.

In the short term, the biggest local impact is likely to be construction activity from 2026. Longer term, the extra daily foot traffic in the precinct typically supports nearby services like cafes, convenience retail and student-focused amenities.

No student capacity has been publicly confirmed yet, with further planning and partnerships still being developed.

Recent Sales Snapshot: Seven-Figure Results in Petrie

As major institutions continue to anchor Petrie’s growth, the suburb has also seen a steady run of $1 million-plus sales.

Recent high-value results include:

  • 44 Affleck Avenue — $1,500,000
  • 15 Hopkins Street — $1,240,000
  • 3 Cardinet Court — $1,212,800
  • 55 Hunter Circuit — $1,180,000
  • 7 Ruby Crescent — $1,090,000
  • 62 Affleck Avenue — $1,090,000
  • 42 Kirri Avenue — $1,037,500
  • 107 Rue Montaigne — $1,002,000

While education projects don’t usually trigger overnight price spikes, they often help underpin longer-term confidence — especially when paired with transport access, nearby jobs, and major precinct investment.
