New CCTV and licence plate recognition technology has been installed at the corner of Plantation Road and Old Gympie Road in Dakabin, providing enhanced monitoring capabilities at the intersection. The technology is intended to help deter crime and support community safety across Moreton Bay.

The installation forms part of a $250,000 investment delivered in partnership with the City of Moreton Bay. The project includes new CCTV and licence plate recognition technology designed to support efforts to identify and prevent criminal activity.
New Technology Adds To Local Safety Measures
The equipment provides additional monitoring capabilities at the intersection and is intended to help deter crime. The announcement said the technology would support efforts to identify and prevent criminal activity while helping to improve community safety.
Minister for Local Government and Water Ann Leahy said the project would provide local authorities with additional tools to help deter crime and support public safety. Member for Redcliffe Kerri-Anne Dooley said the upgrades would strengthen community safety outcomes and provide additional tools to help deter crime.
City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery also welcomed the completed project, saying the additional CCTV and licence plate recognition technology would help make the community safer. He acknowledged the support of the State and the Queensland Police Service in helping deter crime across the City of Moreton Bay.
The City of Moreton Bay has also expanded its broader public safety CCTV network, with council saying the network now includes more than 2,000 cameras across the city. Licence plate recognition technology is also used within the city’s mobile CCTV cameras, which can be deployed in response to issues including dangerous driving, break-ins and theft.
Old Gympie Road Upgrade Continues
The new safety technology has been installed at an intersection on Old Gympie Road, which is used by motorists, pedestrians, cyclists and other active transport users travelling through Dakabin and Kallangur. The City of Moreton Bay is also progressing an upgrade of Old Gympie Road to improve traffic flow and safety for all road users and pedestrians as the local population grows.
The detailed design includes widening the road to a four-lane, median-divided corridor, traffic lights at nine intersections, new footpaths and off-road active transport facilities. The project also includes signalised pedestrian crossings, a separate off-road cycle track, shared pathways, landscaping and street lighting.
The City of Moreton Bay said feedback from previous community consultation will be used to refine the detailed design before construction begins. A number of services, including powerlines, water, sewerage and communications infrastructure, will need to be relocated before work on the road upgrades can start.
