Narangba Shopping Centre Proposed Beside Catholic School Site

A proposed Narangba shopping centre anchored by Woolworths would add a full-line supermarket, speciality retail, commercial tenancies and childcare at the corner of Callaghan Road and Morgan Road.

Plans lodged with Moreton Bay City Council cover a 2.9-hectare site at the Callaghan Road and Morgan Road intersection.

The development is described as a local centre intended to meet day-to-day needs in Narangba. Its proposed mix includes a full-line supermarket, speciality retail, childcare, commercial tenancies and other centre activities.

Stage one would deliver the Woolworths supermarket alongside the initial speciality retail and commercial spaces. The first phase would also provide 283 car parking spaces.

A childcare centre would be introduced during stage two, together with further speciality retail and commercial tenancies. Another 105 parking spaces form part of that stage.

Catholic School Proposed North of Centre

An 11.9-hectare block north of the shopping centre site has approval for a proposed Catholic school.

Brisbane Catholic Education received approval for a Ministerial Infrastructure Designation application in August 2025. The organisation has not determined the years in which the school would open.

The infrastructure designation represents one part of the approvals required before the proposed school can begin operating. Further approvals are still needed.

No start date or opening guideline has been set for the education development. Brisbane Catholic Education has indicated that updates will be issued when further information becomes available.

Major Childcare Centre Proposed for Kallangur Business District

Children First Property Pty Ltd has submitted a development application for a major childcare centre capable of accommodating over 130 children in Kallangur.

The proposed facility, to be located at 2/8 Cotterell Road and 105 School Road, would involve the demolition of three existing houses. The plan outlines a one-storey structure with a gross floor area of 1,008 square meters, designed to cater for 132 children up to four years old.

The proposed childcare centre would feature seven separate internal rooms for different age groups and large outdoor play areas. It would operate from 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM, Monday through Friday, and provide 27 car parking spaces for parents and staff.

The site, which boasts frontages on both School and Cotterell roads, is strategically located within Kallangur’s business periphery. Access to the centre is proposed from Cotterell Road.

According to the application, the location is ideal due to its proximity to local shopping, convenience stores, and various community facilities. The developers argue that the site is well-suited for a childcare centre, supporting both the surrounding residential neighbourhoods and the local activity centre.

The application also emphasises the architectural merit of the proposed building, noting that it will present well to both street frontages and neighbouring residential areas. A notable design feature includes an awning structure along the School Road frontage, extending around to Cotterell Road.

As Kallangur continues to grow, this development could provide much-needed childcare services to the area. The application is currently under review by local authorities, and community feedback may play a role in the final decision.

Deception Bay childcare centres have scored well in the latest ranking of centres in Queensland that meet or even exceed industry standards, the latest research revealed.

KindiCare has just released its ranking of each childcare centre or service provider in Queensland with Everton Park Child Care and Development Centre in Everton Park taking the top spot with a KindiCare Rating of 9.9 and a National Quality Standard (NQS) Rating of “Excellent”.

Ashgrove Memorial Kindergarten Inc shares the distinction with similar scores: KindiCare rating of 9.9 and an “Excellent” NQS rating.

Deception Bay’s Little Scholars School of Early Learning Deception Bay, meanwhile, scored 9.8 KindiCare Rating with an NQS Rating of “Exceeding NQS”.

Rounding out the top 10, with each centre also scoring a KindiCare rating of 9.8 and an “Exceeding NQS” rating:
