Running until October 12, the Starlight Scramble aims to raise funds for five life-changing Starlight Wishes, each valued at $7,500. These wishes provide moments of joy and respite for children facing serious illnesses, offering a break from the challenges of hospital stays and medical treatments.
Starlight Wishes Do Come True
For Anabela, one of the most exciting things about living in a house for the first time is going to the letterbox at the end of the garden to check for mail!
Despite living with a series of complex medical conditions, the six-year-old always finds the positive side of life. Shortly after she was born, Anabela was diagnosed with Spina Bifida, Complex VACTERL Association, Tethered Cord Syndrome, and Scoliosis, alongside several other conditions.
Anabela also lives with Microtia Atresia Grade 3, which means she does not have an outer right ear or an ear canal, causing conductive hearing loss. She also has Hemifacial Microsomia, a condition where one side of her face is underdeveloped. Since birth, she has undergone over 35 general anesthetics and made more than 400 trips to the hospital.
Despite her challenges, Anabela’s positivity shines through. One of her biggest dreams came true when she received her very own cubby house as her Starlight Wish. Captain Starlight, a beloved character for children in hospitals, was there to cheer her on as she explored her new cubby, complete with a kitchen, toys, and even her very own mailbox—fulfilling her dream of checking the mail in her garden!
“It means the world to Anabela to have a space to call her own. It’s going to mean many happy birthdays and many hours happily playing with her friends after school,” said her mother, Sarah. “I’m so humbled by the generosity of so many people making this happen for us.”

A Best Friend for Life
Five-year-old Hunter loves spending time at the dog park, patting all the dogs. So when he lost interest in going to the park and became fatigued, his parents were understandably concerned.
After several doctor visits and a late-night trip to the hospital, their lives were turned upside down—Hunter was diagnosed with Leukemia and he had to undergo chemotherapy.
During his long hospital stays, one bright spot was the visits from Captain Starlight. The jokes and playful interaction provided moments of joy, distracting Hunter from the tough treatments.
Despite the challenges, one piece of good news brought hope to Hunter—a Starlight Wish. His wish was simple: a Dalmatian puppy, inspired by his favorite movie 101 Dalmatians that he watched repeatedly in the hospital. The family chose a sweet Dalmatian named Rocky, who quickly became Hunter’s best friend.
“Starlight has brought our family so much joy,” Bridie shared. “I’m so thankful to the supporters who make this happiness possible. I can’t imagine how we would have got through all of this without Starlight being there.”
Hunter now has Rocky by his side, a loyal companion who brings light and happiness into his life. Rocky has given Hunter something to look forward to, a reminder of the joy that dogs have always brought him.
