North Lakes Food Outlet Continues Supporting Families After Move to Margate

A community food outlet that began helping North Lakes families in 2023 is continuing its work from larger premises in Margate, following an earlier campaign to expand its affordable grocery services.

Kingdom Makers Food Outlet ended trading in North Lakes on 21 November 2025, announcing plans to welcome customers to its new premises at 251 Oxley Avenue, Margate, on 2 December. The move brought its North Lakes operations to a close after approximately two years and eight months.

The outlet had developed a following among residents seeking affordable food, including households from Deception Bay, Rothwell, Redcliffe and Kallangur. During its earlier operations, Foodbank reported that Kingdom Makers was assisting hundreds of families each week through discounted groceries and emergency food relief.

Its Margate premises remain available to North Lakes residents, with general shopping open to everyone and additional benefits offered through a low-cost membership.

Expansion plans preceded move to Margate

Several months before leaving North Lakes, Kingdom Makers had been seeking community support to secure larger premises for its food relief operations.

In August 2025, the organisation announced a fundraising gala scheduled for Kallangur Community Hall on 9 August. The planned activities included a garage sale, discounted clothing, food stalls and raffles, with proceeds intended to support the search for a bigger facility.

The organisation subsequently confirmed its departure from North Lakes in a Facebook post. Marking the final day of trading, it thanked local residents for their support and announced the planned opening in Margate.

Larger warehouse provides room for more food

At Margate, the organisation has gained additional storage and distribution space for groceries supplied through its food relief partnerships.

Kingdom Makers works with Foodbank Queensland, SecondBite and Twin Rivers Community Care, obtaining suitable surplus food and grocery essentials for redistribution through its outlet.

Its Australian Communities Foundation profile states that the larger warehouse enables the organisation to store and distribute greater quantities of fruit, vegetables and other essentials. The profile also outlines proposed improvements to flooring, refrigeration, freezer storage and checkout facilities to support its operations.

Affordable groceries remain available to North Lakes residents

Customers travelling to Margate can purchase discounted groceries without membership. A one-off $3 fee provides additional benefits, including access to free bread and fresh produce when available with a purchase.

The outlet may also offer immediate, short-term emergency food hampers to individuals and families experiencing hardship, depending on available supplies.

The service caters to households facing a range of financial pressures, including employed parents seeking to reduce grocery bills, older residents and people experiencing unemployment.

Foodbank’s 2025 research found that approximately 480,000 Queensland households, representing 22 per cent of the state’s households, had experienced food insecurity over the preceding year.

Volunteers remain central to food relief

Volunteers assist with stocking shelves, serving customers and preparing groceries for distribution. Kingdom Makers also works with employment and training providers to offer opportunities for people to gain workplace experience and develop confidence.

Senior Pastor Alexia Fruean has emphasised the importance of treating customers and volunteers with dignity, recognising the different circumstances that bring people to the outlet.
