A Morning of Music, New Faces and Fresh Possibilities for North Lakes Seniors

Sometimes, finding something new to do around North Lakes is as simple as meeting the right person. Next Tuesday, older residents will have plenty of chances to do just that, with music, morning tea and a free community expo all happening under one roof.

The Connecting Seniors Expo, organised by BlueCare, will bring local organisations and service providers to North Lakes Community Centre on 27 October. It is part of Queensland Seniors Month, but residents won’t need a special reason to come along. Curiosity, a few questions or the prospect of an enjoyable morning out will do.

The event begins at 9.30am at 10 The Corso, with entertainment, free morning tea and information stalls giving visitors several ways to spend their morning.

A Little Music to Break the Ice

The Lovely Daze Duo will perform from 10am to 11am, bringing live music to the morning’s programme.

There will also be free morning tea, giving visitors time to sit down, enjoy the entertainment and perhaps strike up a conversation with someone they haven’t met before.

BlueCare’s Community Engagement Lead for the Brisbane North Region, Rebecca Winstanley, has highlighted the importance of older people feeling connected, valued and included.

The expo puts that idea into practice in a familiar local setting, with no admission charge and a programme combining entertainment with useful information.

Anyone planning to attend the musical performance will need to book ahead because of venue capacity limits. Reservations can be made by calling BlueCare on 1300 258 322 and asking to be connected to neighbourhood D3.

Something Worth Asking About

From 11am, the focus shifts to the expo stalls, where visitors can wander through at their own pace until 1pm.

Some may have questions about aged care or services for a family member. Others might be interested in joining a local group, taking up an activity or finding out what community programmes are available.

Rather than searching through websites or making separate enquiries, residents can speak with representatives face to face and get a better sense of which services might be useful.

Family members and carers are welcome too, particularly those helping an older relative explore support options.

And there’s no need to make a booking for the stalls. Anyone interested can drop in during the two-hour session.

A Gathering Close to Home

North Lakes Community Centre sits at 10 The Corso, near the North Lakes Bus Interchange, with wheelchair access available at the venue.

The expo is one of the local gatherings marking Queensland Seniors Month, which celebrates older Queenslanders and their continuing involvement in community life.

For residents curious about local activities or services they have heard about but never explored, Tuesday’s gathering offers a chance to ask questions in person.

And there’s no need to plan ahead to visit the stalls. Residents can simply drop in between 11am and 1pm, have a look around and see what catches their interest.
