A cup of coffee or a toasted sandwich at a North Lakes café is helping put breakfast and lunch on the table for schoolchildren across Moreton Bay.
At Axis Café on Gardenia Parade, everyday purchases help support Food For Kids, a community programme reaching ten local state schools.
Behind the initiative is Axis Church, which operates the café from its North Lakes premises. What begins as a quick stop for coffee or a bite to eat also contributes to food assistance for children whose families are facing financial pressures.
Breakfast and Lunch for Children Who Need It
Food For Kids provides breakfasts and/or lunches through ten state schools across the City of Moreton Bay, helping children whose families are facing financial pressures.
For households juggling grocery bills and other everyday expenses, having food available at school can make a meaningful difference. A simple breakfast before lessons or lunch during the school day helps ensure children have something to eat when they need it.
Through Food For Kids, Axis Church has made school food assistance a continuing part of its community work, extending its reach beyond the North Lakes café and into schools across Moreton Bay.
Coffee and Company on Gardenia Parade
Axis Café operates from the Axis Church premises at 1–5 Gardenia Parade, North Lakes, where coffee, toasties and a children’s menu make it a convenient stop for families visiting the centre.
The café is also part of the weekly routine for families attending Axis Playtime, a Wednesday gathering for parents, carers and children aged up to five.
With crafts, stories and opportunities for indoor and outdoor play, the sessions bring local families together during school terms. A visit to the café can easily become part of the morning, whether for a takeaway coffee or something to eat before heading home.
In October, Axis Playtime highlighted the connection between café purchases and Food For Kids, encouraging visitors to support the programme through their usual café orders.
The arrangement gives customers a simple way to contribute to a local cause while going about their day.

Years of Helping Local Schoolchildren
Food For Kids has been part of the Moreton Bay community for several years, with the initiative dating back to 2018.
The programme began after concerns emerged about children arriving at school without breakfast or lunch. By 2023, it was supporting ten schools across the region.
Community fundraising has remained part of that work. In September 2025, Axis Church organised a trivia night to help purchase fruit and other food supplies for schoolchildren.
Alongside those fundraising efforts, Axis Café offers another way for local residents to contribute, turning everyday visits into ongoing support for the programme.
A Little Extra Behind Every Order
The café’s contribution is built into an everyday activity rather than a separate fundraising appeal.
Customers can support Food For Kids simply by ordering something from the menu, whether they are visiting for a Playtime session, catching up with friends or stopping in for a coffee.
For customers, it may be just another coffee or toasted sandwich. For Food For Kids, those purchases are another source of support in getting food to children who need it.
