Sixty years after opening its doors, Kallangur Memorial Bowls Club is preparing for significant changes to its facilities, with plans for a covered synthetic bowling green, additional parking and improvements to its clubhouse.
The proposed redevelopment at 1351 Anzac Avenue comes during the club’s 60th anniversary year, bringing the prospect of a new playing surface to a venue that has been part of Kallangur’s sporting and social life since 1966.
Alongside the proposed green, clubhouse improvements have already been taking place, marking a period of change for the long-established sporting venue.
A New Green for Kallangur Bowlers
The centrepiece of the proposal is a competition-standard synthetic bowling green with 10 rinks, protected by an overhead cover.
The plans would replace the club’s existing turf greens with a synthetic playing surface extending from the property boundary towards the internal access road.
For local bowlers, the proposed cover could offer greater protection from Queensland’s heat and rain, potentially reducing weather-related interruptions to games and competitions.
Synthetic surfaces also have different maintenance requirements from traditional grass greens, although the club has not publicly detailed the expected operating savings or maintenance arrangements for the proposed facility.
The proposed green and its overhead structure would represent a substantial change to the club’s outdoor sporting facilities.

Changes Around the Clubhouse
While the covered green forms part of the club’s future plans, other improvements have been taking place around the property.
Clubhouse renovations were under way by October, and the Pine Rivers RSL Sub-branch had moved into newly refurbished rooms within the building.
The RSL had previously occupied demountable buildings on the property. Their proposed removal would create space for additional parking, changing how the site accommodates members and visitors.
Vegetation had also been cleared from the front of the property as part of the wider changes reported earlier in October.
The property itself underwent a change in ownership in January 2026, when Pine Rivers Ventures purchased the site from the City of Moreton Bay. Norths Leagues Club holds the lease over the bowls club and associated car parks.
Norths Leagues Club had funded the project work undertaken by early October, while grant applications were being pursued to help finance the proposed synthetic green and overhead structure.
Six Decades of Bowls and Community Life
Kallangur Memorial Bowls Club first opened in 1966 and celebrated its diamond jubilee in July 2026.
Over the decades, the club has provided a place for both competitive bowlers and residents looking for a more relaxed introduction to the sport.
Its players participate in district, zone and state competitions, alongside club events, social bowls and barefoot bowls.
The club also offers different membership options, including junior and social memberships, reflecting its role beyond organised competition.
The proposed redevelopment would therefore affect more than the playing surface. The clubhouse, parking areas and shared facilities are part of a venue used by sporting members, visitors and community organisations.
A New Chapter for the Club
The proposed changes come during a milestone year for Kallangur Memorial Bowls Club, combining improvements to its existing clubhouse with plans for a different playing environment.
Details of the proposed works are included in development application DA/2026/4319, lodged with the City of Moreton Bay.
