Deception Bay Circus Returns With Brazilian Motorbike Riders

The Deception Bay circus season will bring Brazilian motorcycle stunt riders, acrobats and aerial performers to Higgs Street as Ashton’s The Great Australian Circus returns.

The big top is scheduled to operate from 13 to 29 November 2026. The opening performance is listed for Friday, 13 November, at 7:00 p.m., with the last advertised session on Sunday, 29 November, at 11:00 a.m.

The Amaral Globe Riders from Brazil are a featured part of the programme. Their motorbike stunts take place inside a metal sphere, while other advertised acts include contortion, hand balancing, high-wire acrobatics and comedy. Ashton Entertainment says performances last about 90 minutes, including an interval.

Chantel Ashton-Rodriguez Grew Up In The Ring

Ashton Entertainment owner and managing director Chantel Ashton-Rodriguez has been performing since early childhood. She joined her family’s bareback horse-riding act at two years old and later performed tumbling, trampoline and Russian Bar routines. Her work expanded into aerial silks, aerial ring and other disciplines, while she also learnt choreography and backstage management. Ashton-Rodriguez began running the family company in 2017, taking on responsibilities that include circus production and tour management.

She is a sixth-generation member of the Ashton circus family, whose history stretches further back than the company she now leads. James Henry Ashton opened Ashton Circus in 1850, and the family’s published history records eight generations and three separate circus companies operating in Australia. The family maintained its circus tradition through the two world wars and the Great Depression. The later COVID-19 shutdowns also interrupted live entertainment, but Ashton Entertainment continues to tour.
