The development, brought forward by Norhart Developments, will introduce an expansive 8539 sqm showroom, a service station, and nine tenancies ranging in size from 238 sqm to 1967 sqm.

Two drive-through restaurants and a 2500 sq m storage warehouse will be part of the development, which Norhart Developments is in charge of. Ample parking will be provided, with 365 spaces planned for the site, which boasts a 122-metre frontage onto both Anzac Ave and Buchanan St.

The plans carefully consider traffic flow. They incorporate a U-turn bay on Anzac Ave and a future connection to the Leisel Jones Dr roundabout adjacent to Bunnings. This connectivity aims to ensure smooth traffic movement within the area and accommodate the anticipated increase in vehicle activity.

The project has been met with mixed reactions from the community. While acknowledging the potential economic benefits of the development, some residents have voiced concerns about adding another service station to the area. Councillor Sandra Ruck, representing Division 5, addressed these concerns, stating that the development aligns with the town plan and must be accepted based on existing service stations.

The construction will be rolled out in two stages. The initial phase will focus on the homemaker tenancies, service stations, food outlets, and car parking. The warehouse construction will follow in the subsequent stage.  This phased approach is expected to minimise disruption to the surrounding area and allow for a more manageable construction process.

With its diverse retail offerings and convenient location, the new homemaker centre is anticipated to become a hub for shoppers and a significant contributor to the local economy.

North Lakes Community Shocked by Another Brazen Break-in Next to Murdered Mum’s Home

The house adjacent to where Emma Lovell was brutally murdered on Boxing Day 2022 has been invaded by a group of masked youths in North Lakes.

Late Thursday evening, 22 August, masked intruders were captured on CCTV forcefully entering the home right next to where the tragic incident involving Emma occurred less than two years ago. The distressing footage revealed several young offenders at the scene, though it remains unclear if they managed to steal anything.

Resident Sarah Brown expressed her dismay and anger over the incident, highlighting the youths’ audacity in targeting their community. Lee Lovell, Emma’s widower, shared his disbelief that such an event could recur so near their home, noting it brought back harrowing memories and fears. He reflected on his response to such threats and the perpetual caution that now marks his daily life.

The intrusion has had a strong impact on the community, with neighbors and locals clearly showing significant discomfort. There is a tangible sense of fear that their homes might be targeted next, or even worse, that their families could be directly endangered.

Lee voiced his frustration over the current youth crime measures, suggesting that the system’s leniency only perpetuates the cycle of crime. He advocated for more vital legislation to deter young offenders effectively, pointing out the frequent and seemingly consequence-free nature of youth offenses.

The local police have intensified their efforts in response to the break-in, investigating whether this incident is connected to other recent crimes in the area.

There have been multiple attempts by groups of youths to break into properties in North Lakes and the nearby Mango Hill area. Detectives are also considering links to other aggressive break-ins across Brisbane, including a violent home invasion in Bridgeman Downs where suspects brandished a mallet and a butcher’s knife.

The announcement came this week via a heartfelt social media post from owner-operators Kylie and Craig Oldfield, who expressed gratitude for the community’s support over the past seven years.

The Oldfields’ decision to close marks the final chapter for Pizza Temptations, which began its journey a decade ago in Upper Coomera under the helm of founders Daniel Pirrone-Cook and Belinda Ann Karcoushkas. The original location closed in August of last year, leaving the North Lakes store as the sole remaining outpost of the franchise.

News of the closure has sparked an outpouring of support and reminiscing from loyal customers on social media. Many expressed sadness at losing a local favourite, with some sharing fond memories of the Oldfields and their staff. One commenter even thanked the couple for providing their children with valuable work experience.

While the reasons behind the closure remain undisclosed, it is clear that Pizza Temptations has left a lasting impression on the North Lakes community. As the last embers of the franchise fade, the memories of delicious pizzas and warm service will undoubtedly continue to linger.

Childcare provider Sesame Lane is preparing to expand its services in the area, with plans to open a new centre next to its current location on Joyner Circuit in North Lakes.

In a development application lodged for a site at 8-14 Joyner Circuit, North Lakes, Sesame Lane aims to construct a one-storey childcare centre designed to cater to 104 children. The new centre is strategically designed to operate alongside the neighbouring Sesame Lane childcare facility, sharing vehicle access and boasting a combined total of 80 car parking spaces. This collaborative approach ensures seamless operations and convenience for parents and staff alike.

While the primary focus of the new centre will be on providing after-school care services, it is also capable of accommodating traditional daycare during school hours. The design prioritises engagement with Joyner Circuit by positioning the building and play areas towards the road frontage, with car parking situated at the rear. A dedicated pedestrian pathway will link the two centres, facilitating easy and safe movement between them.

The plan includes 32 new car parking spaces for the new centre, adding up to a total of 80 spaces for both facilities combined, ensuring ample parking availability for parents dropping off and picking up their children.

This latest expansion follows a recent application by Hildon Investments to construct a 90-place childcare centre at 224 Bellmere Road, Bellmere, highlighting the ongoing growth and demand for childcare services in the Moreton Bay region.

Owners Hilton Misso and Don McKenzie are spearheading the development of the new centre, which will span over 3500 sq m. Sesame Lane currently operates 14 locations north of Brisbane, with five existing centres in North Lakes alone, underscoring their commitment to providing quality childcare in the region.

Safety and security are paramount in the design of the new centre, with 2 m of high-screen fencing around the external play areas. According to the development plans, landscaping will complement the fencing and add visual interest.

The proposed centre is strategically located north of North Lakes State School and west of a multi-tenanted commercial development known as the “Lifestyle Centre,” which houses cafes, shops, and offices. To the south, the land fronting Anzac Avenue hosts a series of vehicle sales yards, making the new childcare centre a well-placed addition to the vibrant community of North Lakes.

Major Crackdown on Youth Crime in North Lakes and Surrounds

A sweeping police operation targeting high-risk youth offenders in the North Lakes and surrounding areas has led to the arrest of 20 individuals, including 18 juveniles, on a staggering 64 charges over an intense 11-day period.

Taskforce Guardian, a rapid response unit dedicated to combating youth crime and enhancing community safety, joined forces with local police in the Moreton district to conduct a comprehensive crackdown.

From 22 April to 1 May 2024, the taskforce carried out strategic operations, including locating and apprehending alleged young offenders, monitoring bail compliance, and executing proactive patrols in identified high-risk locations.

The joint operation resulted in the arrest of 18 juveniles on 60 charges and two adults on four charges. The charges encompassed a wide range of offences, such as assault occasioning bodily harm, wilful damage, attempted robbery, stealing, and unlawful use of a motor vehicle. These arrests were made possible through targeted efforts and close collaboration between the taskforce and local law enforcement.

High-Visibility Patrols

To maintain a strong presence and deter criminal activities, high-visibility patrols were conducted at various public transport stations and shopping centres across suburbs like Kallangur, Petrie, Lawnton, Mango Hill, North Lakes, Deception Bay, and Strathpine. These strategic locations were identified as potential hotspots for youth-related offences.

In addition to enforcement efforts, Taskforce Guardian worked closely with key support services and local resources to engage at-risk young people in relevant programs and services. These initiatives focused on addressing underlying issues through health, education, disability services, and First Nations initiatives, aiming to provide comprehensive support and prevent future offending.

Community Safety Prioritised

Acting Chief Superintendent Adam Guild, the Moreton District Officer, emphasised that the operation’s ultimate goal was to ensure community safety. He stated that the taskforce’s presence bolstered frontline efforts, enabling targeted activities to disrupt and prevent youth offending.

Mr Guild also highlighted the importance of engaging with local youth, intervening early, referring those in need to appropriate support services, and seeking justice for victims by locating and arresting recidivist offenders.

The Moreton Bay police have assured the community that they are committed to addressing the challenging issue of youth crime through a comprehensive approach, combining enforcement efforts with proactive engagement and support services.
